Boat trip to Parga (mainland Greece)
|Paul E |
Parga was nice with some great photo opportunities, Paxi like the last post , you have to pay 3e each now or face a long walk and there is not much to do when you get there. Trip on boat is long 2 hours to Parga , 1 hour to Paxi and then two hours back with 2 hours on both places.
This trip was ok - the ship is massive and looks like the sort of thing you cross the channel on - the seats are just wooden, no sun beds and it was packed full. You sail for 4/5 hours all in all so it's not very tranquil or quaint travelling. It has got a bar/toilets etc but really not my cup of tea - no pulling up, stopping and jumping off into the sea!

We booked our trip the day before, cost just 26 Euros and apart from the early start was definately worth it. I found the trip very comfortable, not too busy, mini pool on board, good guide and very relaxing to lie on deck watching Greece go by. In Parga it was well worth walking up to the old fortress, only took about 10 minutes and the views were amazing. Shopping in the narrow streets was lovely and although we didn't go to any of the tavernas, we had a very nice take away kebab. Paxos was not as nice, probably only because we spent a while trying to find the small, crowded beach but the whole trip was well worth it and had it not been our last day we probably would have done it again!

This trip gives you a good chance to see a couple of other places you might like to spend your holidays . As a direct result of spending a couple of hours in Parga on this trip in 2002, we decided we wanted to see more and had 2 weeks there in 2003. It was brilliant.
Good day but would have preferred to have stayed in parga all day.

STILL 34 EUROS, BUT EXCELLENT VALUE. PAXOS WAS A BEAUTIFUL ISLAND, LOTS OF SCENERY, AND A LOVELY VILLAGE WHICH HAD LOTS OF SHOPS, AND A MARKET. VERY NICE RESTAURANTS, TAVERNAS, CAFE'S ETC, WHICH ALL HAD VERY GOOD SERVICE. FROM PAXOS TO PARGA VIA ANTIPAXOS WAS VERY GOOD FOR THE SCENERY AND THE SHORT SWIM STOP. PARGA WAS ALSO A VERY TYPICAL GREEK VILLAGE/TOWN WITH AGAIN PLENTY TO SEE AND DO. AGAIN THE TAVERNA'S ETC GAVE GOOD VALUE AND EXCELLENT SERVICE. THE RETURN TRIP TO CORFU WAS SOMEWHAT CHOPPY AND WINDY BUT THAT CAN BE EXPECTED IN THE IONIAN SEA. I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT THE TRIP TO BE SPLIT IN TO TWO TRIPS, TO PAXOS/ANTIPAXOS AND PARGA TO ALLOW MORE TIME TO EXPLORE. I BELIEVE THIS USE TO BE THE CASE. A VERY MUCH ENJOYED EXCURSION, AND OF GREAT VALUE FOR MONEY. SERVICE ON THE BOAT WAS EXCELLENT.

The price as of May 2003 is still 34 euros. There is no difference in price if booking direct with a tour operator.

Convinced to go on this by cute rep. Neil. Trip from hell. Boat was an over crowded ferry type thing. Not what we had imagined. we were forced downstairs because of rocking where someone threw up on me, and my two friends also threw up , complete chaos, everybody throwing up. sick boat from hell!!!!! waste of a day as only an hour or so spent in Paxos/Parga. Spent day sleeping and washing sick of pretty summer dress.

We loved this trip the scenery was breathtaking my husband wanted to jump ship in Parga it was so lovely but only if you enjoy sightseeing We wanted to see as much of greece as was possible during our stay and what better way to do it. I wouldnt recommend it if you have kids as its quite a trashing day and hard on the feet so wear comfy shoes its an early start as well and a full day but I thought it was beautiful be warned though if your prone to burn easily dont sit on the top deck it is scorching but you cant feel it burning because of the sea breeze.the last port of call has quite a long walk into shopping area as the ferry cant dock nearer so hence the comfy shoes! camera is a must.

We did the combined Parga and Paxos trip. Very early start.34euro but children free. The boat was too crowded difficult to find seats and keep them. Some refreshments available. The 2hrs at Parga turned into 1h45 hard to get lunch and swim in such a short time. Expensive restaurants on the front. Treat it as a shopping trip, the town beach was very crowded and it was not easy to swim. Two more hours on the boat, again not comfortable. Paxos was more of the same. Then 2 1/2hrs back to corfu, then 1hr45on the bus back to st george a bit too much like commuting.
