I thought that the Mikargy hotel was great! OK, the rooms are simple and the shower primitive, but it is in the BEST location, really close to bar street but far enough away to get some good sleep when you really need it! Just beware of the old man who is very scary, and the albanian watchman who is very very scary! o and the breakfast is not worth getting up for! But honestly, it is a really good place to stay, so much so i want to go back!

Having read the reviews I was a bit worried before staying at this hotel, however we were not disappointed at all. Seriously, those who slated it, what are you expecting? It's 2* Greece... you get what you pay for. The staff were polite and helpful, the pool was clean, the location was fantastic (5 minute walk from amenities, yet quiet at night). We did get a fair amount of mosquitoes in the room but this was our own fault for leaving the balcony door open. Room was quite hot at night but you could hire fans from reception.

Perfect for young couples wanting affordable, basic accommodation which is close to all ameneties in a lively area of Kos.

Most of these comments are unfair, for a start all places in Greece are fairly basic its the greek charm. You would also get bites whereever you are in Kos, the worst place we were biten was on our day trip to Turkey. The pool was lovely and had a nice snack bar, it is bed and breakfast and breakfast is abit basic ( rolls ham, cheese and jam) but still nice.

The staff were nice and friendly, maid service was daily and towels changed every few days. The bathroom took a little bit of getting used to. You must shower before 6pm if you want hot water or else there will be none till the next evening(as in greece most water is heated by solar power and once its gone its gone, too be honest we were glad of a cold shower as it was soo hot)!!!

Location was great for us as it was only 2 minutes to the nicer cleaner beach and only 5 mins walk from the main strip and we were near all the nicer restauants, if like us you want abit of traditional greek and don't want to eat in the red lion, try the restaurants like Yannis.

We were really dissapointed with the night life, after being places like Mailia we xpected something abit different however all music in the bars goes off at 12pm at this point you get loads of idiots chanting and clubs only get busy around half 1.

However if you fancy an indie night you must visit Mad Club, this places is ace and the people are so nice! Also Status was a good night and Starlight was O.K(expect high prices here though).

The picture and description in the brochure didn’t quite match the real thing. When we turned up the hotel looked like it hadn’t been updated since the seventies then we walked in and it didn’t exactly differ from the exterior. Apart from the rather undesirable smell in the reception. The location was good apart from the situation of the main road which was right next to the hotel. But all in all the location was good. As for the rooms the seventies theme was continued. The beds were very uncomfortable, the light didn’t work. And as for the telephone and radio they should be in a museum. Then there was the bathroom which all in all was very cramped, there was black gunk all over the shower, the water went everywhere and you had to be less than 5ft to be able to wash your hair (Mr Barson).

Just got back from a week in Kardamena and at the Mikargy.

Well all I can say is me and my 3 mates had no complaints about the hotel at all, pool was great, staff couldnt be any more helpful or polite. Maid service was 3 times in the week and always left the room spotless.

Place overall was great but be warned, always bring a bug plug with you as you will get bitten in the nite and dont leave any lights on at all, and dont play your portable dvd player either as that attracts the mozzies !!!!!!!!!

hi,....firstly the mosquitos! you either hate them or you hate them!! we hated them! our room in the mikargy was infested with them when we got there, my partner tracy was bitten over 150 times on the 1st two nights,i was also badly bitten (not as bad as tracy though)repellents just dont work & we had to go to the pharmacy for cream which took away the sting but didnt stop them biting again!!!
2nd the hosts....Argy was very nice & helpful, spoke good english too,(the spray she gave us for our room for the mozzys did work but why it isnt in your room as standard i dont know).her husband was'nt, was'nt & did'nt.
3rd the hotel....the location was ok,quiet enough, but the sea view left a bit to be desired,(you need a neck like a girrafe to see it)the rooms were very basic, they did thier job,ie: bed, shower, balcony(though the mozzys did'nt allow you to use the balcony).sheets changed only twice in 2 weeks...urghhhhh!!towels 3 times...urghhhh!!!the cleaner was very nice & did the best she could & ivan her husband was a decent bloke who knew how to pour a brandy, lol,& could talk & listen right through the night.breakfast was continental with only that option(no eggs, grrrr)
the cleanliness option i have ticked does not reflect onto the cleaner in any way but more to do with the fact that the hotel looked as though it had'nt had a penny spent on it in 20 years

I've stayed in the Mikargy Hotel twice. Once in 2001 and once in 2003. I did not really have any complaints about this hotel, the rooms were basic self catering accomadation and were cleaned every other day. There is a balcony for each room. Toilet and shower room included. The shower is not enclosed and sometimes water will come out of the shower basin onto the floor. Rooms are basic so if you are expecting high quality rooms you will be disappointed but they are clean and serve their purpose. The pool at the Mikargy is excellent with music playing and a small bar which serves cold drinks and snacks. You are expected to buy at least one drink if you would like to sit by the pool and you are not a resident of the hotel. In the main hotel there is a bar and breakfast area inside close to the main reception, plus safety deposit boxes. Breakfast is served between 7-9 it consists of a continental breakfast, bread roll, cheese, ham, butter, jam, orange juice, etc. It won't be to everyone's taste but there are plenty of eatery's nearby which cater for every palet. I've noticed some complaints regarding the mosquitos. Mosquitoes are a particular problem in Kos. There are alot of trees and fields around the Mikargy hotel and this does mean that there are more mosquitos. I have stayed in other apartments towards central Kardamena (surrounded by streets) and got slightly less mosquito bites (but still been bitten). You are advised to bring your own mosquito repellent or a mosquito plugin. You are not allowed to bring outside guests back to your room at night at the Mikargy Hotel (although it is possible).

I have never had so many mosquito bites in my life - infact have never had any! My daughter Emily, partner Graham and his son Calum were also bitten - over 100 each. Breakfast was far too early - did anyone go? Sheets were only changed once a week. But on a good note they had a nice swimming pool! Oh yes Emily liked their toasted sandwiches!

erm... The only good thing was the night manager/handy man Evan from Bulgaria. He was so charming (unfortunetly married) and helpful he really looked after us. he fixed our door handel and gave us a new lock and key (shouldnt have been broken in the first place!)
He rescued us from a GIANT cockroach! He lent us his favourite CD to dance to whilst getting ready for our nights out!

Bed sheets and towels only got changed once a week- gross, we washed our own in between and left them out on the balcony during the day to dry!
Dont bother going down for breakfast unless you want a really good laugh!
